Mike Bird
I have been painting and drawing as a leisure activity since childhood. After a career as a civil engineer working in highway design, construction and maintenance I am now retired and living in Ottery St Mary. I draw my inspiration from old photographs, memory and imagination, often seeking subjects telling something of a story that can be researched. My subject matter also embraces landscape and abstract works. Railways are a recurring theme, which is a legacy from childhood days staying at the station house in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, where my grandfather was the Stationmaster.
