OVAS Newsletter New Year 2019

OVAS NEW YEAR NEWSLETTER 2019

Dear Members,

I hope the new year finds you healthy and raring to go with your painting projects. As usual, we have an exciting programme of events lined up this year, kicking off with our first meeting on Friday 1st Feb, when Ray Balkwill will be giving us a critique of our work. Please remember that to give everyone a chance of being seen, could you only bring up to two paintings each.

We have several artists booked for workshops during the year, exciting artist James Tatum in April and our own Phil Creek in June. As the plein air events have proved to be popular there may be further opportunities again this summer. Watch this space!

... I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the price of membership has been kept at the same price for this year, but we will be discussing the need to increase it at our AGM on FRIDAY 1st MARCH 2019 at the Institute. Please make sure that you have the date in your diary , as it is an important event for ALL our members to have their say on matters.

We will also be considering the need for all members to be thinking of how they could step up and join the committee, as several are going to be stepping down in the near future as they have served the society for a long time. I ‘m sure that you all appreciate the importance of a fully functioning committee to enable the society to keep going in its present form . So please be thinking very carefully about this matter over the next few weeks and if you feel you would like more information do give one of the committee a phone call and they will be happy to oblige. Come on folks, stir your stumps!

The subject for the competition at this year’s AGM is “Transport” which is a wide theme that most of you can relate to and produce a work for. So get thinking and painting!

The other reminder I need to give you is about the tea rota at the monthly meetings. This year’s rota is attached. Please check to see which month you are down to do this, and if you have to make a change, remember that it is your responsibility to contact the relevant committee member so that a replacement can be found in time. Many thanks.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the first meeting in February and don’t forget to bring your paintings along with you.

With best wishes,

Penny Lamb
