Art has always been part of my life. My father was an accomplished amateur water colourist and I hope I have inherited some of his skills! It has only been in the last ten years or so that I have taken up painting more seriously and I have my own studio in which to work. I would describe my paintings as being traditional but quirky and I work in water colour, pastels, acrylics and oil. My personal taste in art centres on the Newlyn School and the Glasgow boys. I admire their style of blending realism with impressionism.
My preferred subjects are marine, seascapes, landscapes, nature (flora and fauna) and occasionally, portraits.

Congratulations to Sue from all of us at OVAS for being selected two years running for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
Sue writes:-
I really can't believe I've done it two years running!! I was encouraged by a family member, who had taken photos, to paint the Mersey ferry.
The Pop Artist Sir Peter Blake [most famous for the cover of Sergeant Pepper (CP) ] was commissioned to decorate it as Liverpool was celebrating the end of WW1 amongst other things. The ferry has become a moving work of art! It's bright geometric colours bring a smile to one's face and it is particularly popular with tourists as well as Liverpudlians.
My painting sold before the exhibition opened to the public and, as a result of it being in the RA, I have had enquiries about my work and further sales! Anyone can submit a painting to the exhibition. The whole process has been such fun for myself, family and friends. My painting was even seen in a photo published in The Times! Selling was the icing on the cake! I would encourage anyone to enter.
